Our Story

It all started with a single prick… by a wild cactus at the Carolina Beach State Park that is! Founders Grey and Nicole were strolling the Cape Fear riverside when the idea came up to take their green thumbs and love for weird, funky plants to the next level. They found many cactus would thrive immensely in the coastal Carolina climate, quite similarly to those in temperate desert environments (minus the rattlesnakes) and yet, the area lacked the preservation, business, and education regarding these hardy plants. From there, they started collecting cactus from across the nation and establishing their nursery, ranging from OG trichocereus clones to cross-pollinated seedlings by the dozen. That’s where Cape Fear Cactus began!

With each pricks’ needs in mind, Cape Fear Cactus supplies all the cacti-necessities from seedlings and cactus cuttings, to specialty blended soil mixes, and cactus grub for primal growth and longevity. While these cactuses are perfect for a windowsill, many will thrive in outdoor soil and fresh air (location dependant). Although not recommended to love on these plants bare handed, they’re sure to bring brightness and a bit of flowers into your space with minimal upkeep and maximum spunky beauty!

More than just a cactus shop, Cape Fear Cactus aims to provide educational resources for conservation of these badass spiked creatures. Did you know there is no fossil record for cactus, yet they’ve been studied since the 14th century!? While some say cacti were transferred from continent to continent via Christopher Columbus, rumors have it that cacti originated in Africa 120 million years ago. Wonder what the first dinosaur who hugged a cactus felt about that one! From local vendor markets to online connections, Cape Fear Cactus strives to bring lifestyle decor, with a hint of history, education and charitable contribution to every willing community.

Cactus are unique & diverse, so are we! Cape Fear Cactus is woman-partnered and operated, a LGBTQIA+ ally, and an environmental charity contributor establishment.
